One of our first offerings way back in 2014 was a washed coffee from Sulawesi in Indonesia, but this is our first ever release from Sumatra! The defining feature of this micro lot is its deep, lingering sweetness, backed by a myriad of subtle savory notes.
The unique qualities of this coffee are brought together with clarity thanks to the careful washed processing of the Pantan Musara mill. It is based in Pegasing district of Takengon, in Sumatra’s coffee-famous Aceh region. We are so excited to support their efforts in evolving the flavor profile that Sumatra is known for.
Located in northern Sumatra, Aceh is an incredible region for coffee production because of its diverse topography. Surrounded by beaches, the volcanic Barisian Mountains make up two-thirds of the area which means that coffee is grown on mostly volcanic mountains amongst the rainforest.
The mill serves several small coffee producers within the Pantan Musara villages. Several years ago, these producers were dislocated because of a natural disaster, and they have rebuilt their lives and farms with a new focus on coffee. This mill is producing Washed coffees, as well as Naturals.
