The Halo Hartume wet mill, located in Gedeb, Gedeo was founded in 2018 by Haile Figa. A native of the town, Haile has more than a decade of experience in the coffee industry. Inspired by new laws and regulations surrounding coffee in Ethiopia at the time, he built the Halo Hartume wet mill with the hope of purchasing coffee from the nearby farmers in the community. 

The region of Gedeo is situated as the southernmost region in Ethiopia, and is home to famous coffee growing districts like Yirgacheffe and now Gedeb. Until about a decade ago, Yirgacheffe, which helped put washed coffee on the map for Ethiopia decades ago, had become synonymous with any coffee coming from the region of Gadeo. With more distinction being given to each area of Gedeo, Gedeb itself has become a new quality coffee hotspot. Coffee is somewhat newer to the area of Gedeb. Much of the coffee here is only about 20-30 years old with first or second generation coffee farmers. 

Coffee from Gedeb isn’t totally new to our menu as it’s also home to the community of Worka Chelbessa, a long time favorite seasonal offering on the Ruby menu. Though we’ve sourced coffee from this region before, Decaf Halo Hartume is a unique new addition to offerings. We’ve searched high and low for a new single origin decaf offering and we’re excited to share this coffee with you. This combination of natural processing and ethyl acetate decaffeination showcases sweet and fruity tasting notes for a totally new and different style of decaf that’s meant to be enjoyed.
