The Barichu Farmers Cooperative Society is a relatively new co-operative, having been registered with the Cooperative Development Board of Kenya in 1996. It represents four different coffee factories: Karatina, Karindundu, Gaturiri and Gatomboya.

Located in the highly-regarded Nyeri district of Kenya, the Gaturiri coffee factory serves around 1500 small scale producers and produces around 600 tons of cherry. These coffees are meticulously sorted before being processed in the coffee factory’s de-pulper and go through the full washing cycle.

Gaturiri is named for the Kikuyu word for “the shrubs,” which is an area that people often use to go foraging for herbs and medicines for humans and livestock. In the same way that gaturiri is a hub for that supports people in Nyeri, the Gaturiri Coffee Factory also helps support farmers with advance payments for school fees, farm inputs, and other emergencies.

This year, coffee from Gaturiri really shows the truly special qualities that come from Kenya’s unique cultivars and soil we taste juicy, bright, and sweet fruit qualities in this coffee that made it stand out and really grab our attention.

12 oz / 340 g. Whole bean.

Orders placed by 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday will roast and ship the next day. Thank you!
