The Kata Muduga Farmers Cooperative Union is a revolutionary force for Ethiopian coffee producers. The Yukro cooperative joined in 2016, and paired with other cooperatives nearby, Kata Muduga Farmers Cooperative can better market their coffees to an international audience and coordinate the export process.
Before Yukro joined Kata Muduga, it was a well known name for coffee quality, and that didn’t come by accident. Formed in 1977, the coffee produced by Yukro was general low grade and didn’t fetch very good prices. In 2012, Yukro partnered with an NGO named TechnoServe who designed and built state of the art, environmentally focused washing stations around Ethiopia. The effects were immediate.
The coffee from Yukro began to be well renowned, almost like a brand name. With 548 farm members, Yukro produces nearly 12 lots of coffee year, separated by harvest time. This lot is their #2 lot, from the earlier in the year harvests, and features pristine sweetness and clarity.
We feel lucky to be able to offer these great coffees from Ethiopia. Along with the stellar quality on offer, Yukro’s processing station utilizes a low water usage Penagos de-pulper, and natural plant life that helps absorb waste water drastically cutting down on runoff from the washing station.
