Karatina Coffee Factory has extremely high standards from acceptance of cherry from farmer members to fermentation, washing, and drying processes. This standard of quality allows the Co-operative to directly negotiate with buyers, like Ruby, for high premiums, compared to selling it on auction. The price paid is a direct reflection of both Karatina, Ruby, and our import partner Collaborative Coffee Source’s commitment to quality and better pay for farmers. Funds collected by the co-operative from the last harvest are also made available to members to pay for school fees, fertilizer, or other needs before harvest season begins. We’re happy to add Karatina to Ruby’s menu this year.
