Genaro Juarez is a coffee farmer in the region of San Marcos. This high quality microlot is produced in quite the artisanal way. Genaro and his family are responsible for taking care of their small, nine Hectare farm. During harvesting, coffee cherries are hand picked at peak ripeness, and then processed by Genaro and his family themselves.
Because of its location in the area of San Pedro Sacatepéquez, the farm sits at a high altitude, and coffees flourish in the rich volcanic soil, proximate to Volcan Tajumulco. The entire farm is 100% shade grown utilizing a diverse variety of native trees such as avocado and other fruit. The microclimate here produces unique coffees with delicious sweetness and floral notes. Showcasing his dedication and quality, Genaro has won multiple awards and recognition from the Best of San Marcos regional competitions.
Genaro is also a leader in his farming cooperative, APPAECE, which was established in 1992 and contains 400 members. He places a lot of care in his fully certified organic coffee production and over the last six years has been working with the Gento Coffee Project as they seek to build sustainable and transparent relationships while empowering farmers through quality improvement and knowledge. His farm is currently certified in some markets and is in the process of obtaining organic certification within the United States.
This coffee from Genaro’s farm has so much to offer. It’s balanced, bright and juicy with sweet mixed fruit notes as it cools. We hope you find it as enjoyable as we do!
