January is a time when many of us are thinking about change, new beginnings and possibly even some goals for the year ahead. To me, one of our Roaster’s Choice coffees, which is also our Bright and Lively subscription this month, fits right in with these January vibes. Colombia FUDAM Women Producers is a project based on advancing and elevating the women members’ coffees, their lives and the Colombian coffee industry as a whole. I was fortunate enough to visit some of these women on their farms in September 2023. During a cupping they had set up for us, I enjoyed a certain cup that I later found out was FUDAM’s offering from their women producers. Initially I thought it would go well in our Organic August blend, but we ultimately decided to highlight it on its own as a subscription coffee, a spot it no doubt deserves. I hope you can imagine the hard work and special attention that these women put into growing and processing their coffee as you enjoy lively notes of cherry cola and lime zest.
The other half of Roaster’s Choice, and also our Rich and Sweet subscription, is Guatemala Finca de Dios Nacimiento. The word “nacimiento” translates literally to “birth,” so it also fits in with the theme of new beginnings. The word can also mean “spring,” which in this case refers to the spring-fed river that runs through this section of their farm, also completely in line with our growth and change-oriented motif this month! With notes of cherry, toffee, and candied nuts, you are bound to enjoy some cozy brews as we make our way through this wintery month.
