This decaf roast is a lively blend of two coffees from Kenya’s Nyeri region, an area celebrated for its dynamic flavor profiles and nutrient-rich volcanic soil near Mount Kenya. Both coffees come from longstanding cooperative systems that prioritize quality, transparency, and equitable profit-sharing among smallholder farmers.
One component comes from the Kigwandi Factory, part of the Mutheka Cooperative, which supports nearly 850 producers—most tending small plots with just a few hundred coffee trees. The other half of the blend comes from the Rukira Factory, a member of the larger Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society, representing over 14,000 farmers across 19 factories. About 600 of those producers contribute to Rukira’s lots, working together to maintain quality and consistency year after year.
This decaf is part of a limited Emerald Micro Lots series from Swiss Water, offering a unique chance to enjoy the vibrant character of Kenyan coffees, without the caffeine. Swiss Water Decaf has been an industry leader for decades, using a chemical free method to extract caffeine from green coffee beans, while preserving as much of the original flavor and character of the bean as possible. We love this coffee for its juicy, berry-forward Kenyan profile, which is maintained through this meticulous decaf process.
