Tega & Tula is a specialty coffee farm, and one of the oldest large operations in Ethiopia. It’s made up of  two adjacent farms that are named after the nearby villages. The farm spans nearly 500 hectares and is surrounded by protected UNESCO forests, creating a stunning scene combined with its hilly and flat landscape throughout the farm. It’s located in the famous Kaffa zone, which is considered the absolute birthplace of Arabica.

Originally established in 2000, the first decade of the farm was prosperous until its owners experienced decline due to financial troubles. Everything changed in 2015, when the farm was purchased by Ahadu Woubshet. Ahadu knew the farm's reputation and its potential for quality coffee, and was determined to return the farm to its former glory. Ahadu got to work improving infrastructure, including building new washing stations in certain areas to optimize efficiency of coffee flow from the trees. He also built a paved road between the farms to allow easy transportation for staff and ensure emergency vehicles can quickly reach where they may need to go.

Not only has Ahadu revitalized the once declining farm, but he’s also electrified the surrounding community. He built a school on the farm which educates over 80 children, and pays workers 20% more than other farms. He also plans to do one large project based on community input each year. Ahadu uses the term “Fair Chain” to describe the uplifting of the entire supply chain to find a better life working in coffee, stating “Without a community, you can’t have a farm.”

The farm is certified organic producing both natural and washed lots with traceability down to the producer and block os subplot, which each have their own farm manager and agronomist. This model contributes to operational excellence of the farm, ultimately producing consistently excellent coffees.
